Established in 1998, the science and society committee at EMBL aims to promote reflexivity and to improve mutual understanding between our scientific community and the public.

EMBL Science and Society Forum EMBL Forum - Seminar Series

The Forum on Science and Society is a regular seminar series where distinguished speakers lecture on social and ethical aspects of recent developments in the life sciences. 

Heidelberg Forum Heidelberg Forum on the Biosciences and Society

A special lecture series aimed at improving mutual understanding among researchers in the different branches of the life sciences, as well as at promoting communication between the scientific community and the general public. Partners in this initiative include the EMBL, the Faculty of Medicine and the ZMBH of the University of Heidelberg, and the Deutsches Krebsforschungzentrum (DKFZ).

Science and Society Conferences Conferences and Workshops

Occasionally, the EMBL Science and Society Committee and the EMBL Office of Information and Public Affairs organize conferences, symposia, and workshops. Among these are the joint EMBO/EMBL meetings held each year in November.

Science and Society Reading Club Reading Club

Once a month the reading club meets to discuss an article or book of interest to the entire EMBL community -- scientific and non-scientific staff alike -- in a relaxed and informal setting. Snacks are served and all are welcome!
