Valencia, 30 December 2013 Domingo Barettino Domingo Barettino, former EMBL postdoc, passed away on Friday 6th November in Valencia. Domingo was a researcher at the Institute of Biomedicine in Valencia, and Professor in the Department of Biotechnology in the Politechnical University of Valencia. Rest in peace.
Heidelberg, 18 December 2013 EMBL Heidelberg RNK Stammtisch Following the success of the first Heidelberg alumni "Stammtisch" in October, the second was extended to alumni of the Rhine Neckar region. More than twenty alumni gathered together at the busiest period - just before the Christmas break - to strengthen ties with their community.
Heidelberg, 13 December 2013 Stay connected with EMBL! The Alumni Relations Office launched a campaign to increase the number of Alumni Association members on 9th December, as many alumni do not realise that membership requires an online registration process. A personalised mailing campaign has proven successful so far.
Heidelberg, 2 December 2013 New - The Lennart Philipson Award A new award that commemorates EMBL’s second Director General, Lennart Philipson will be open for applications in 2014, thanks to sponsors EMBLEM. The Lennart Philipson Award confers a cash prize of €5,000, is open to all alumni, and recognises translational research in human health and technology innovation.

Hinxton, 21 November 2013 22nd EMBL Alumni Association board meeting On 21 November, the EMBL Alumni Association (EAA) board held their 22nd meeting at EMBL-EBI, followed by a reception for staff and UK-resident EMBL alumni. Janet Thornton, EMBL-EBI Director, welcomed the 60 participants to the new South Building – which houses state-of-the-art training facilities and the ELIXIR Hub.
