Biography: I entered into bioinformatics in my PhD studies 93-96. I had the pleasure of visiting EMBL-EBI, spending six months there, in the early days of the institute's existence. At EBI I met a lot of interesting people, many of whom I am still in contact and in collaborations with. My current work is in bioinformatics, and I am interested in pattern discovery, data mining, and algorithms. The main areas of application is in the analysis of sequences, (protein) structures, and microarray gene expression data.

Worked on enzymology of prokaryote DNA and RNA polymerases, polynucleotide kinase, and DNA ligase. Studied in vitro carsinogenesis and toxicology, including tumour promotion. Ongoing studies on the molecular biology of thyroid tumorigenesis with particular emphasis on tyrosine kinase receptor signal tranduction and growth factors.
