I believe that a detailed understanding of host-mycobacteria interactions will provide insights not only into the mechanisms usurped by mycobacteria to survive but also into basic aspects of cellular functions and in the innate immune system. Keywords: phagosome, mycobacteria, lysosome, macrophage Biography Hide biographyBiography: Maximiliano Gutierrez born in 1976 in Mendoza, Argentina, is head of the Junior Research Group Phagosome Biology at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, Braunschweig. He studied at the University of San Luis, San Luis and obtained a biochemistry and molecular biology degree from the University of San Luis in 2005. In 2005, he was awarded PhD from, University of San Luis, Argentina. After that, he spent almost three years as a postdoctoral scientist at EMBL, Heidelberg, Germany as a fellow of the von Humboldt foundation and EMBO. Since November 2008, he is the head of the Junior Group Phagosome Biology. The main area of research is the cell biology of host-pathogen interactions with a focus on mycobacteria. -
