Biography: 1990: PhD in Biological Sciences by the Department of Biochemistry
and Molecular Biology, Autónoma University of Madrid.
1992-1996: Postdoctoral Research Associate in Joel D. Richter?s laboratory (Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research, Massachusetts, USA).
1996-2000: Postdoctoral Research Associate in Matthias W. Hentze?s laboratory (European Molecular Biology Laboratory ?EMBL-, Germany).
2001: Staff Scientist at EMBL.
2002: Group Leader at the Genomic Regulation Center (CRG, Barcelona, Spain).

Biography: Ennio De Gregorio is site head for Novartis Vaccines Research in Siena, Italy since 2011. The Research Center hosts more than 200 scientists and has contributed to the discovery of several licensed vaccines. Since 2008, Ennio De Gregorio is head of the Immunology function of Novartis Vaccines Research, Italy. The immunology function is involved in adjuvant discovery and immunological characterization of vaccine formulations in pre-clinical assays. He has published several manuscripts and book chapters on the mechanism of action of vaccine adjuvants. Prior to this position he was project leader in Novartis Vaccines. Between 2000 and 2003 Dr. De Gregorio worked on the innate immune response as a post-doctoral fellow of Human Frontier Science Program at the CNRS, Gif-sur-Yvette, France. During this time he applied DNA microarray and genetic tools to study host defense in Drosophila. Dr. De Gregorio performed his PhD work in 1996-2000 at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) Gene Expression Program in Heidelberg, Germany. During this time he studied control mechanisms of mRNA translation in eukaryotic cells. Dr De Gregorio received the degree on Molecular Biology from the University of Rome, Italy in 1994.

Biography: I qualified as an MD in Münster/Germany in 1984 after attending Medical schools in Great Britain (Glasgow,London)and Münster ; At Washington DC I was offered to work as a freelancing medical journalist focusing on clinically relevant molecular genetic news (`85 - `89); In 1991 I joined a research project about clinical and cytogenetic features of Fanconi Anemia at the Inst.of Human Genetics at Heidelberg University and started the training programme as a Human Geneticist (Counselling, Cyto- and Molecular Diagnostics)there. My project at EMBL focussed on the performance of a cDNA based Micro-Array - the "Iron-Chip" in the clinical Set-up investigating the expression pattern of hemochromatosis patients in leucocyte mRNA. I have recently joined a local private endocrinology practice in Heidelberg as a Human Geneticist providing Genetic Counselling and services of a diagnostic molecular laboratory.

Biography: I am a dedicated and passionate researcher with an international scientific carrier in laboratories located in Canada, Germany, and England. During my scientific career at Molecular Medicine Partnership Unit (MMPU), which is a joint venture between the Medical Faculty of the University of Heidelberg and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), I experienced the advantageous bond between molecular research and medicine. My research pointed toward the understanding of the basis of common human diseases caused by malfunctions in gene regulation with focus on RNA metabolism. I achieved my goals by coordinating cooperation with scientists of wide range of contributing disciplines across the breadth of University and European institutions as well as by seeking feedback from research community while attending and presenting in conferences and meetings.

I consider myself as an interactive person, who enjoys exchanging ideas and with vision of teamwork. The success of my collaborations with external research groups is reflected in the scientific publications of shared projects. Moreover, I have passionately mentored undergraduate students and junior team members and also represented non-profit organization in Canadian High Schools to attract youth on to science.

I have largely enjoyed and benefited from my engagements in research, as they have consented me to pursuit my interests, take responsibility for acquiring new skills or knowledge, look at problems from different angles, and gain a new perspective on how to strengthen teamwork and collaborative foundations.
