How to search

Enter a search term in the search box at the top of the page, and press the "search" button.

The system searches the fields: First name, surname, research interests, current institute, city, country and nationality. The number of results are displayed directly under the search box, and the term queried is highlighted in the text.

Under the Search box at the top of the page, you will see the number of search results found for any one search.

You can filter a search by using the left-hand menu. Filters can only be applied AFTER you have begun a search. To cancel one or more filters, simply close the relevant filter from the "Filters" box at the top of the search list. The Filters box only appears after you have selected a filter from the left-hand menu.

EMBL information Senior Research Technician Wittbrodt Group Developmental Biology From 09.1998 to 06.2008 Research interests: Cells within epithelial sheets are polarized with distinct apical and basal domains. This cellular organization is critical to both epithelial form and function. Our research aims to identify genes that are essential for epithelial cell polarity in the vertebrate nervous system and to analyse their specific function using medaka and zebrafish as model systems. We use genetic, molecular genetic and cell biological approaches. Biography Hide biography

    Biography: Juan Martinez-Morales scientific trajectory:

The main subject of my scientific career has been to elucidate cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the development of the vertebrate nervous system, in general, and the development of the vertebrate eye in particular. I have experience in embryology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, genomics, advanced microscopy and bioinformatics. My research projects were carried out in research centers in Spain, mainly in the Cajal Institute (Spanish Research Council, CSIC) where I did my PhD, and in well-known international centers such as the Institute Curie in Paris and the European molecular Biology Laboratories (EMBL) in Heidelberg as a postdoctoral.
At EMBL, I completed my scientific training both technically and conceptually. Particularly, the atmosphere of intellectual freedom in Jochen Wittbrodt’s laboratory facilitated my natural transition towards research independence. It provided me with the necessary training in handling teleost fish (zebrafish and medaka): a suitable model system for a developmental biologist with a strong background in cellular and molecular biology. During my postdoctoral I had the opportunity of coordinating small interdisciplinary groups developing original projects that diverged from the main research line of Jochen Wittbrodt’s laboratory.
In January 2008, the CABD (Andalusian Centre for Developmental Biology; UPO/CSIC gave me the opportunity of joining the institute with a Ramon y Cajal contract and allowed me to carry out my independent research project as PI. The title of my research line is “genetic control of epithelial morphogenesis in vertebrates”, an exciting topic lying at the crossroads between cell and developmental biology.
