Biography: My prime interest is the relationship between the structures of proteins and their biochemical and biological functions. This encompasses studies of their covalent structures, tertiary structures and assembly into functional complexes. Approaches employed include structure-function studies of muteins, molecular modelling, empirical tertiary structure determination by NMR or X-ray crystallography and chemical modifications. More recently, I have applied techniques of mass spectrometry and two-dimensional electrophoresis to the study differential expression of proteins in pathogenic oral bacteria and to the characterization of proteins and their post-translational modifications.
