Partners bring new perspective on advanced scientific training
Training specialists from the Founding and Corporate Partners of EMBL’s Advanced Training Centre – including Leica, Olympus, BD and Illumina – gathered in April with managers of EMBL’s external training unit for a kick-off meeting aimed at furthering training synergy and strategy.
Convening alongside colleagues from EMBL’s Corporate Partnership Programme and scientific Core Facilities, the industry representatives were given a sneak preview of the training plan for 2015, and gained a platform to share their own requirements and expectations for advanced courses, conferences and workshops. “This meeting was a cornerstone in our objective to foster corporate engagement and support in our training activities, for mutual benefit,” says Jacqueline Dreyer, Head of External Scientific Courses at EMBL. “By combining our expertise and having corporate partners collaborating with each other, we contribute to improving the excellence of our training activities to the benefit of the participants.”
The one-day consultation proved to be a popular and productive event, sparking ideas for new topics and themes for advanced training activities, and highlighting opportunities for collaboration between the partners and EMBL. A follow-up meeting is planned for autumn.
EMBL’s Advanced Training Centre Corporate Partnership Programme facilitates mutually beneficial interactions between industry and EMBL. The Programme connects interested organisations with leading molecular biologists and the latest developments in the molecular life sciences. Through the Programme, EMBL and corporate partners enable outstanding young scientists to contribute to world-class scientific events held at the Advanced Training Centre in Heidelberg.
