Host Site Agreement

The states in which the European Molecular Biology Laboratory is situated have concluded with the Laboratory Host Site Agreements relating to the status of the Laboratory and such privileges and immunities of the Laboratory and its staff which are necessary for the fulfillment of its objectives and for the exercise of its functions. Below you will find the agreements with all four states in which EMBL is situated as PDF documents. 

Under the terms of its agreements with the governments of the countries in which it has laboratories, EMBL enjoys special tax status. The terms of the tax status in each country are set out in the Host Site Agreements which are available for inspection below.  As an international organisation, EMBL also qualifies to receive goods or services free of VAT from other countries within the EU under the terms of Directives 77/388/CEE and 92/12/CEE. For specific questions about EMBL and taxation please contact the Head of Finance (phone +49 6221 387-8295).
