Come and meet Nobel Laureates at our new Lecture Series Vision 2020

To celebrate the inaugural year of the EMBL Advanced Training Centre and to set the stage for what we hope will be decades of exceptional scientific presentations, the EMBL hosts a unique series of forward-looking scientific lectures by world leaders in their fields, called “Vision 2020”.

After a fantastic start with David Baltimore on 28 April with over 560 interested participants we look forward to welcoming Phillip A. Sharp on Tuesday, 15 June 2010: The Biology of Gene Regulation by miRNAs [Website]
Register NOW for the Joint EBI-Wellcome Trust Proteomics Workshop
The Joint EMBL-EBI-Wellcome Trust Proteomics workshop, which will take place at the EMBL-EBI, 13-17 December 2010, is specially designed to provide hands-on training in the use of public databases for peptide analysis, annotation of subsequent protein lists using these resources, incorporation of information from molecular interaction and pathway databases, and the use of protein 3D-structure data in proteomics experiments. Registration closes at 12 noon GMT on 20 August 2010. Please visit the course website to learn more and to register. [more...]
EMBL Hamburg hosts 1st EMBO Conference on Catalytic Mechanisms by Biological Systems
From 5 - 7 May 2010, about 120 participants attended the EMBO Conference entitled “Catalytic Mechanisms by Biological Systems: at the Interface between Chemistry and Biology” which took place on the DESY Campus in Hamburg. The conference included eight sessions with a total of 29 speakers who covered a wide range of topics detailing advanced methodological approaches, including high resolution kinetic protein crystallography, neutron crystallography, NMR, mass spectroscopy and enzymology.   EMBL Career Day: 10 June 2010
While following an academic-oriented career path during their PhDs and post-docs, many scientists go on to take up non-academic positions afterwards. EMBL has created a Career Day which aims to provide an overview of alternative, non-academic career possibilities. Each year we present a selection of speakers with a scientific background, who have made the move into a large variety of different professions. The event is free of charge but registration is required. [Website]
The 12th International EMBL PhD Student Symposium,
From science fiction to science fact: what’s next?
  Registration is already open!

The annual International EMBL PhD Student Symposium is organized by students for students. This year it will be held at EMBL Heidelberg, Germany from 21- 23 October 2010.
Science fact and science fiction are closely linked. The current boundaries in different fields of life sciences will be investigated during the four sessions of the symposium (Cell and Structural Biology, Medical Research, Omics, and Science Fiction). [more...]
Feature: "Pan-Asian hub" for life scientists opened in Suzhou, China on 6 April 2010
