  Happy Birthday!

A year on from its grand opening, the EMBL Advanced Training Centre is now firmly established as a notable European location for courses, conferences and workshops in the life sciences. On 9 March 2011 the EMBL Advanced Training Centre in Heidelberg celebrated its first birthday - but were the preceding three years of planning, building, dust, noise and expectation worth the wait?   Register NOW for the 8th BSPR-EBI Meeting From the Visible to the Hidden Proteome

Defining and quantifying all the proteins in a cell/tissue or organism is one of the current grand challenges in proteomics. The resulting 'proteome maps' would have critical applications in many arenas and would support a completely new view of the protein world. [Read more]

  Upcoming Courses at EMBL

Don't miss the chance to register for one of our upcoming practical courses. Next upcoming registration deadlines:

12th EMBO | EMBL Science & Society Conference: "Making Sense of Mental Illness: Biology, Medicine and Society", 4-5 Nov 2011

The conference will address the often-challenging issues surrounding neurological and behavioural disorders and attitudes towards them.
Experts from a wide range of disciplines will explore the ethical and social implications of mental illness and will explain the latest scientific knowledge on their causes and treatment. [Website]

Join Us at the EMBL Career Options Day 2011
While following an academic-oriented career path during their PhDs and post-docs, the majority of scientists go on to take up non-academic positions afterwards. The European Molecular Biology Laboratories (EMBL) has created a Career Day which aims to provide an overview of alternative, non-academic career possibilities. [Read more]
Feature: Meet Richard Axel, Susan Lindquist, Eric Wieschaus & Co. at The EMBO Meeting 2011, Vienna 10-13 September
More than 120 excellent scientists from across the life sciences are speaking at this year's EMBO Meeting. Barry Dickson, co-chair of the conference says "The broad scope of this conference has allowed the organising committee at EMBO to select topics and speakers across the entire range of the molecular life sciences..."   Feature: The 14th FGED Meeting: High Throughput Sequencing and Functional Genomics, 12 - 14 July 2011
The 14th FGED Meeting will be held as a satellite meeting of ISMB in Vienna on 12 - 14 July 2011. The meeting, organised by EMBL scientists and the FGED board, will focus on high throughput analysis of the genome, variome and transcriptome with an emphasis on the biological knowledge gained with these technologies and novel methods for data analysis.
