HRCMM

Heidelberg Research Centre for Molecular Medicine

Translating discoveries from the world of bioscience into diagnostic procedures and treatment strategies is a major challenge in modern medicine. The Heidelberg Research Centre for Molecular Medicine (HRCMM) is a brand new initiative founded during Excellence Initiative II of the Heidelberg University and funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG.

The HRCMM aims to overcome existing obstacles by offering medical students and scientifically orientated physicians outstanding development opportunities doing top-level international research and training towards becoming highly qualified physicians.

The HRCMM is based on the success of the Molecular Medicine Partnership Unit (MMPU) to effectively bridge between basic science and medicine. The MMPU, a joint venture between the EMBL and the Medical Center of the University of Heidelberg, offers HRCMM fellows full access to its state of the art infrastructure and provides internationally experienced mentors to help them grow as competent clinical researchers.

The HRCMM offers three different fellowships starting in 2013.

1.      One-year Junior Career Fellowships (JCF) to MD students

First call for 2013 is closed!

This Fellowship is awarded for a period of one year to support medical students with ambitions in particular in molecular medicine. Integrated in one of the eight MMPU groups, selected fellows will have the opportunity to conduct a challenging project for their MD thesis and to start networking with internationally renowned scientists and physicians.

Information about all MMPU groups and group leaders is available on these webpages. Before sending the application document, the group leaders of interest need to be contacted in advance.

2.     Two-year Career Development Fellowships (CDF) for scientifically oriented qualified physicians undergoing medical specialist training.

The fellows will be integrated within the University Hospital Heidelberg and conduct their research in collaboration with an EMBL group. Selected fellows will have the opportunity to work at a laboratory at the Otto-Meyerhof-Zentrum (OMZ) or at the EMBL, to do ground-breaking research and to establish international networks within the medical and scientific community. Before sending the application document, the respective head of the clinic at the University Hospital, as well as the EMBL group leader need to be contacted.
