EMBO Practical Course
Cryo-Electron Microscopy and 3D Image Processing
EMBL Heidelberg, Germany Sunday 29 August - Sunday 5 September 2010
The course is aimed at PhD-students and PostDocs, who have already some experience in electron microscopy and want to use it and/or learn advanced image processing techniques. The structure of large macromolecular assemblies and how they interact in the cellular context remain major challenges in modern structural biology. Electron microscopy combined with image processing is one of the most potent techniques to address these problems and therefore attracts many new researchers to enter the field. It has unique and rapidly advancing capabilities to address molecules in vivo, and to deal with heterogeneous samples. However, the methods are complex and require in depth advanced training which is only rarely available. Our course will provide this training in order to facilitate reliable structure determination by electron microscopy and image processing.
