A dip into EBI resources: understanding your data

New resources and Future Directions “A dip into EBI resources” took place on the 19-22 October 2009 in the IT-training suite at the EBI, Hinxton. During this course attendee’s dived into browsing bacterial genomes, exploring human variations, the world of small molecules, drug discovery, RNAs and text mining. They also had the opportunity to hear from leading researchers and developers about the EMBL-EBI new resources and future directions. On the final day, a morning session asking the actual attendees to define questions to pose to each other reveal how well the attendees had actually gain significantly insights not only on the variable range of EBI resources and tools but also on the basic concepts across the fields taught during this course. The attendees had a broad biological background and were for their vast majority experimental researchers in a biological field. One of the attendees said that what he will remember the most is “The many interactions between all the available tools at the EBI. Each tool begins to be really connected to other ones and that's really an impressive evolution.” - James Watson and Vicky Schneider
