I am in Toby Gibsons group, but my subjects are quite different. I am involved in a – Verbund, a Germany – wide project on protein chips. This means data mining search for multifunctional proteins suitable to be implemented in protein chips. As a spinoff, I was involved in the discovery of “multiply overexpressed cancer genes”.
You can find me in room V101 together with my colleagues. I am not here full-time, but very often. You can send E-mail to the address "Altenberg@EMBL.DE".
My snail-mail address is:
B. Altenberg

I have many scientific hobbies. For example, I am interested in sequence analyses, in proteins related in cancer research.Of course I like to model with WHAT IF and to try some new applications, and if someone is interested in a WHAT IF course, please write an e-mail. If more than 4 people want to attend the course we can arrange a date as soon as possible.
But now I am involved in more statistical work about ubiquitous cancer genes. Genes which are unusually overexpressed in more than 15 phenotypcally different cancers. (Altenberg, Gemuend and Greulich 2006 PROTEOMICS 6, 67 -71)or the newest paper: The Database dbEST Correctly Predicts Gene Expression in Colon Cancer Patients. If you want to read more about my work together with the Fritz Lippmann Institut, or you can also have a look on my list of publications and have a look on the web page of the research group of K.O.Greulich and pick on "Multi tissue analysis of cancer". There are some Poster to look at.
