Multiple Sequence Alignments (MSAs) And Phylogenies

Aidan Budd

Monday 23rd June - Tuesday 24th June 2008

This is an introductory two-day course on multiple sequence alignment and phylogenetics.

This course will provide some experience of the tools used to calculate alignments and phylogenies - important for a wide range of
different analyses e.g. protein structure prediction, comparative genomics etc. The focus will be on discussing the concepts and assumptions used in these tools, aiming to improve your ability to critically interpret alignments and phylogenies. The focus is on protein sequences.

Intended for researchers (Diploma/Masters level and above) working at EMBL who already use such data and methods at a basic level, encounter them in papers they read, or plan to do so in the future.
