It was the beginning of an adventure that provided Glöckner with a front-row seat to EMBL’s history, serving under four directors general as the institute grew from a mishmash of container rooms to the sophisticated multi-site operation it is today.
Heidelberg, 7 September 2014 EMBL Team rows against cancer Tension was running high on the morning of Sunday 7th of September, as 92 boats made their way up the Neckar. This was not to be a storming of the castle, but the start of the 5th rowing regatta in Heidelberg "Rudern gegen Krebs", where the EMBL Team won in the highest category of the event.

Heidelberg, 18 July 2014 Celebrating 40 years EMBL More than 1,000 staff and alumni from around the world came together at EMBL Heidelberg to celebrate the Lab’s 40th Anniversary Reunion. A special programme offering excellent science, innovative formats, Lab reunions, Facility tours, speed dating and entertainment was co-organised by the Alumni Association and Lab Day Committee, making it the largest community event in EMBL’s history.
Heidelberg, 11 July 2014 EMBL Team run against cancer The EMBL Team won for the third year the title "Team completing most laps" at the NCT run against cancer - completing 206 laps in total. With 44 team members donating €1255, EMBL had the largest team and made the largest donation. They were also one of the most visible teams sporting the new 40th anniversary running shirts "learning from life".
Hinxton, 12 June 2014 Celebrating 20 years of bioinformatics On 12 June 2014, EMBL-EBI celebrated its 20th anniversary with a day of inspiring talks and fun activities on the Genome Campus. Held on the lawn behind Hinxton Hall, the event brought together staff and alumni to connect, look back on a remarkable two decades of growth and discovery and share ideas about the future of bioinformatics.
General, 1 April 2014 Aurelio Teleman and Alen Piljic Seeds of collaboration and initiative take root in two alumni, each developing community-led tools to support life science research. Aurelio Teleman has built LabLore, a knowledge database to accompany published life science literature. Alen Piljic is co-founder of the not-for-profit Life Science Network, an online platform that combines an expanding list of tools "to improve the scientific process".
