Speakers and instructors

Gompper NEW

Gerhard Gompper
Forschungzentrum Jülich, Germany

Gerhard is heading the Theoretical Soft Matter & Biophysics institute in Juelich and is Professor of Physics at the University of Cologne. His research focuses on the theoretical and numerical modeling of complex fluids, soft matter materials and biological systems. In the recent years he has worked on a wide class of topics, ranging from the physics of membranes and polymers to the simulation of micro swimmers and the mechanics of red cells in blood flows. Specialist of the hydrodynamics of complex fluids, he is a leader in the field of mesoscale simulations.

Mogilner NEW

Alex Mogilner
Courant Institute and New York University,

Alex Mogilner  is a Professor at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and at Department of Biology of New York University. His research focuses on the dynamics of cytoskeleton, modeling cell migration and mitosis, and experimental investigation of galvanotaxis. Alex and his group develop new mathematical and computational models to understand biophysics of cell movements and cell division, in close collaboration with biologists.

Nedelec New

François Nédélec
EMBL Heidelberg,

Francois is group leader at the European Molecular Biology in Heidelberg. He has 20 years of experience in numerical modeling of the cytoskeleton, having worked on multiple problems such as the assembly of the mitotic spindle. He has developed with his group the simulation engine Cytosim, which imple- ments the Brownian dynamics method for large systems composed of many flexible filaments and associated proteins, such as molecular motors.
Cytosim being a versatile platform, it is readily applicable to a great variety of problems in 2 and 3 dimensions.
