Skills development in a collaborative approach to R&D
Matthias Gottwald, Bayer AG, Germany
Matthias Gottwald is Head of R&D Policy and Networking at Bayer AG Pharmaceuticals Division since 2007, being responsible for the interaction with the political environment on R&D related issues, consortia management and publicly funded activities. He has a PhD in microbiology from University of Goettingen and has worked in several R&D management positions at Schering AG and Bayer AG. He was actively involved in the planning and implementation of the Innovative Medicines Initiative IMI and supports the initiative since then as chair of the IMI Operations Group of EFPIA and member of the Executive Boards of the IMI projects EUPATI and DO-IT. As Open Innovation and collaborative approaches of pharmaceutical companies with academia and all other stakeholders in healthcare R&D have become highly relevant over the last decade he will share his experiences on skills needed to work in collaboration and on collaborative approaches for continuous professional development.
