The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations worldwide. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Barcelona (Spain), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton near Cambridge (UK) and Rome (Italy).
EMBL is seeking a staff responsible for Compliance joining the Internal Audit Office. Internal Audit is an independent appraisal function established to examine and evaluate EMBL's activities and to assist Management in the effective discharge of their responsibilities. The successful candidate will directly report to the Head of Internal Audit and will actively co-operate with EMBL’s administrative departments and scientific units including EMBL’s sites.
- Performing on-going compliance risk assessments and identifying key areas requiring improvement action
- Advising management on applicable action plans related to identified compliance risks
- Maintaining a compliance risk register
- Evaluating emerging compliance trends and advising management on best practices
- Advising on policies, procedures or guidance related to activities that prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct
- Promoting compliance awareness within the organisation by providing training and access to the compliance materials
The main focus will be put on external grant providers’ requirements.
Duty travel of up to 15% may be required.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate should hold an academic degree in related fields. Knowledge of scientific institutions would be of particular value.
We expect the candidate to have at minimum three years of professional experience in the field of legal, compliance, internal audit or similar. Knowledge of life science research laws, regulations and guidelines and experience related to research grants is desirable.
The ideal candidate should be eager to learn and develop as well as be able to communicate effectively and confidently with people at all levels. Strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills together with solid team work experience are desirable.
Fluency in English is required, and a working knowledge of German would be advantageous. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office is desired.
