EMBL is looking for a full-time Digital Communications Intern to support the Strategy & Communications team at our main site in Heidelberg, Germany, by spring 2018. You'll be working with the growing digital communications team as EMBL takes on several ambitious projects to raise EMBL’s profile across multiple channels.
As our digital communications intern you will prepare, upload and update digital and social media content in a timely and efficient manner supporting the Digital Editor. You will liaise with content producers within the team, as well as content stakeholders from different departments across EMBL’s six sites.
Key responsibilities include:
• Preparing and uploading text, images, gifs and videos to websites and EMBL's social channels;
• Configuring content management systems (currently Fiona, Drupal, Wordpress and Grav);
• Auditing and curating existing online content;
• Migrating and repackaging content between channels;
• Using various analytics packages to report on how well we do on our social media and web channels;
• Responding to comments and queries on EMBL’s social channels
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications are nice but experience, enthusiasm and application are what we're looking for.
You a great teammate, flexible, highly organised and committed to meeting deadlines. A creative self-starter with an excellent command of written English, you have an eye for detail, whether you are proofreading, creating clean, well-structured HTML or retelling a story on social media. Experience of working in a research environment or with scientific texts would be beneficial.
You should be competent and comfortable with using standard Microsoft Office software, social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Knowledge of Drupal, Wordpress, Grav or Fiona content management systems is a plus and for preparing visual material for the web, you ideally have some working knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop. Generally, you should be a quick learner and be passionate about trying out new tools and platforms that help us collaborate within the team and streamline our editorial and production workflows.
