Open Targets is a public-private initiative between the EMBL-EBI, GlaxoSmithKline, Biogen, Celgene, Takeda, Sanofi and the Sanger Institute to combine large-scale genomic experiments with objective statistical and computational techniques to identify and validate the causal links between targets, pathways and diseases.

We are looking for a Senior Administrator to provide high-level administrative support to the Open Targets Executive Team and members of the Open Targets team.

Your role

The main responsibilities of the role are to provide high-level day-to-day administrative support to the Open Targets Executive Team, incorporating the relevant administrative systems and processes that are associated with their employers (currently Sanger, EBI & GSK). Duties include diary management, support to meetings and travel arrangements.

The post holder will organise several scientific and non-scientific meetings and events, some of which will need to be minuted. Other duties include tracking project budgets, website updates, maintaining the teams Office 365 portal and its associated documentation.

The position is based in dedicated Open Targets space within EMBL-EBI and reports to the Open Targets Operations Director and the Open Targets Scientific Director.

You have

  • excellent organisational and prioritisation skills and experience;
  • excellent knowledge of relevant desktop IT tools, e.g. Outlook, Excel;
  • executive level administrative experience in a large, complex organisation;
  • experience managing systems for tracking workflow and follow up actions;
  • ability to work flexibly and collaboratively and work independently with minimum supervision;
  • a practical approach to problem-solving;
  • excellent communication skills across a wide range of levels;
  • the ability to review, develop and implement good administrative processes;
  • willingness to travel to external meetings/conferences as required (could be locally or internationally).

You might also have

  • experience of budgetary management;
  • experience of website editing, e.g. Drupal, GitHub;
  • prior experience of working in a scientific environment.
