The European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) seeks a Phenomics Team Leader to provide leadership for a newly created Phenomics Team. The institute has several high profile phenomics projects including those for model species such as the Knockout Mouse Project 2, PDXFinder and projects relevant for Human Health including the GWAS Catalog, CINECA, Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) and ongoing national collaborations, for example with Health Data Research UK.

Your role

The main responsibilities include:
  • Leadership of EMBL-EBI’s phenomics activities
  • Extension of existing collaborations
  • Identification of new funding activities

You will lead a faculty level team consisting of approximately 15 staff members working on diverse phenomics projects and will develop new collaborations and projects in line with EMBL-EBI’s medical strategy.

You will report to the Head of the Molecular Archive Cluster and work closely with members of the Cluster and colleagues within the wider EMBL-EBI who deliver phenome relevant genomic and gene expression data. In addition, the team leader will be expected to extend existing connections with relevant health care and research organisations in Europe and worldwide such as the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH).

You have

An MSc and/or a PhD in Biomedicine, Medicine Bioinformatics or relevant field. All candidates are required to have significant experience in the generation, analysis or delivery of high throughput phenomic data and will have experience with the development of service delivery to biomedical users, preferably in a production environment.

Excellent English, both written and oral, and interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

You might also have

Personnel and project management experience and demonstrated potential of successful application and management of external grants, although this is not essential.
