The Open Targets Platform team is currently divided into the Data team (Bioinformaticians), Backend Software Developers, and frontend Web software developers. The Data team analyse and collate the data that enters the platform, and build the appropiate models for integrating and scoring targets-disease associations. This post provides for a Senior Bioinformatican to lead that group and their projects.
The Open Targets (OT) partnership aims to systematically identify and prioritise drug targets by combining genetic, clinical and functional genomics data. Within the consortium, the OT platform integrates the growing body of evidence and provides the necessary context in order to inform the drug discovery process in the public domain. Such endevour demands a talented team bringing together a diverse set of backgrounds and technologies. We are seeking an enthutiastic Senior Bioinformatician to lead the Data team within the OT Platform. The post holder will not only lead current and future challenges in data integration and data analysis, but also collaborate closely with data providers across the Open Targets consortia. The Senior Bioinformatician will help to interpret large-scale biological data in the context of drug discovery, including data from some of the most recent technologies (i.e. CRISPR screenings, single-cell transcriptomics, etc.). The post holder is expected to demonstrate initiative in the development and refinement of suitable data feeds from databases within and outside EMBL-EBI and the Open Targets partnership. This task will also involve interaction with other groups, establishment of automated processing pipelines and quality control procedures, as well as exploratory data analysis in the area of target prioritisation. You will manage and curate the candidate data sources list in collaborations with the Open Targets Partners and other external input e.g. the EMBL-EBI Industry Programme. The role also involves development of summary statistics and QC measures for the Open Targets Platform Build and development of documentation of processes and external facing pages such as API tutorials There is extensive interaction required with backend database developers to refine and test the data processing pipeline. You will be able to represent the Platform group at external conferences and workshops and internally e.g. the EMBL-EBI Industry Programme.
PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or other computational science. Previous experience in Bioinformatics, database technologies and genome-wide biological data analysis. A proven track record of working on large-scale data analysis projects and an understanding of the challenges posed by collaborative projects including flexibility, tight deadlines, and use of state-of-the-art approaches including experience in data analysis with Python/R. The ability to work constructively and collaboratively within a team, and with other groups.
