The Strategic Project Management Office Oversees capital programmes, operation / change projects and large scale procurement for the Institute. The Office also works closely with other external and operational teams to support EMBL-EBI leadership, contributing to consultations, external reviews and by tracking and reporting key indicators to measure the wider impact of the Institute.

EMBL-EBI has been awarded £45m via UKRI’s Strategic Priorities Fund Project to support the continued expansion of its range of open biological data resources until 2024. This investment will underpin the data centre capacity, storage, compute, networking for all of EMBL-EBI’s data resources and the establishment of a central open biological image archive.

Your role

This Senior Project Manager position will be working on the projects that support EMBL-EBI’s technical infrastructure expansion and on the project that will formally establish EMBL-EBI’s BioImage Archive. This will entail working with wide community of imaging expertise and research programmes. which involve a Imaging project associated with the aforementioned UKRI funding and establishment of the Biological Image Archive.

Reporting to the Head of the Strategic Project Management Office and working alongside internal project sponsors and external stakeholders, you would be expected to coordinate the efficient running of the programme, create and maintain documents and develop project plans to ensure the smooth running and success of the project.

You have

You will have professional experience in project management, preferably on large government or publicly funded initiatives. You will have experience in management large scale scientific or technical projects.

Excellent organisational, interpersonal, analytical and communication skills are required. We are looking for someone who is capable of quickly grasping complex concepts and communicating them effectively to different target audiences, ranging from administrative colleagues to scientists to policy-makers.

You will be flexible, energetic and able to work as part of a team as well as independently. The ability to work to deadlines and handle a number of tasks simultaneously is fundamental.

You must also have an in depth knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically MS Excel (using pivot tables, visual basic, dashboard creation etc), broad demonstrable experience of project delivery and experience of budget management.
