We are seeking a junior Systems Administrator to join the Systems Infrastructure Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) located at the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.
You will be working in a team taking care of EBI's central computing services including HPC clusters, job scheduling and high performance storage. The responsibilities include user support, troubleshooting and software installation, configuration and maintenance.
The EBI maintains clusters totalling 1,500 nodes which are used for production services and by several hundred developers and researchers. Additionally, EBI manages more than 100 PB of scientific data, which are mounted from different storage systems using multiple technologies such as NFS, GPFS and Lustre.
There will also be the opportunity to get involved in projects that offer opportunities to learn new skills.

Qualifications and Experience
You will have a degree in Computer Science or have equivalent work experience and the ability to work effectively in English. In addition you are required to have:
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment;
- The desire to learn and keep up with technological advances;
- Willingness to handle trouble tickets and ability to communicate with users.
Any experience of the following is considered advantageous:
- Experience on batch queuing systems (for example LSF)
- Configuration management (Ansible, Puppet etc.);
- Python/Perl/Shell scripting;
- High performance filesystem management (Lustre, GPFS);
Personal organisation, time management, and excellent communications skills are essential.
Your primary role is to deal with trouble tickets and work closely with users. You will have a great opportunity to learn about high performance computing and storage and thus become a Senior Systems Administrator.
