We are seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to join the Systems Infrastructure team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) located at the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK. This position is in the Compute team which is responsible for EBI's central computing services.
You will be responsible for EBI's central computing services including HPC clusters and job scheduling. These responsibilities include user support, troubleshooting, and both hardware and service maintenance and update, in order to keep the infrastructure at the highest levels of use and performance.
We maintain clusters totalling 700 nodes which are used for production services and by several hundred developers and researchers. Additionally, EBI manages more than 200 PB of scientific data, which are mounted from different storage systems using multiple technologies such as NFS, GPFS, and Lustre.
There will also be the opportunity to get involved in projects that offer opportunities to learn new skills.

Qualifications and Experience
You will have a degree in Computer Science or have equivalent work experience and the ability to work effectively in English. In addition you are required to have:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (or other Linux) administration experience
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Desire to learn and keep up with technology advances
Any experience of the following is considered advantageous:
- IBM Platform LSF or SLURM batch processing
- Automated host provisioning (RH satellite, foreman/katello)
- Configuration management (puppet, ansible)
- Python/Perl/Shell scripting
- Containerization technologies (Singularity, Docker)
- High performance filesystem client management (GPFS, Lustre)
- Hadoop administration
Personal organisation, time management, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
