Your role

EMBO Press is looking for a part-time (50%) Editorial Assistant for Review Commons, a new journal-independent peer-reviewing platform established in collaboration with ASAPbio. The platform will produce high-quality portable peer-reviews that can be directly used by EMBO Press and external partner journals and posted on bioRxiv

The Editorial Assistant will assist the Managing Editor of Review Commons in implementing and carrying out a high-quality and efficient peer-review workflow. Specific responsibilities:
  • Managing manuscripts submitted to the platform. This includes manuscript processing and tracking, quality control, author and referee communication, referee reminders and maintaining an efficient editorial pipeline.
  • Updating and maintaining the journal database (eJP), uploading new submissions and appeals, logging and resolving problems with the database. Assisting authors with manuscript submission.
  • Checking of and response to incoming emails or mail from authors, reviewers, academic editors.
  • Ensuring that peer reviews are correctly posted on bioRxiv.
  • Filing and online archiving of manuscripts and associated correspondence.
  • Covering for other assistants for the above duties when they are out of the office.
  • Communicating directly with authors and referees by phone or e-mail to inform them on the status of their manuscript and to answer questions. Where appropriate escalate to the managing editor.
  • Taking notes or minutes at academic editorial board meetings as appropriate.

You might also have

  • relevant administrative or experience working in an international and/or scientific environment.
