The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations worldwide. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Cambridge (UK), Barcelona (Spain) and Rome (Italy). We are seeking a qualified scientist with experience in science education to participate in the operation and further development of the European Learning Laboratory for the Life Sciences (ELLS). Our mission at ELLS is to bridge science and schools, to offer activities and resources to students and teachers featuring the scientific work at EMBL. ELLS operates from the EMBL Headquarter in Heidelberg, Germany and collaborates closely with the EMBL sites listed above. The postholder will report to the Head of ELLS.
The education officer will be involved in a range of activities and projects including: • Developing and running hands-on workshops for international groups of secondary school science teachers and young students; • Developing ELLS resource kits and training materials; • Recruiting and training interested EMBL scientists as tutors for workshops; • Supporting the ELLS school visitor and school ambassador programmes • Liaising with similar activities in Europe to exchange teaching materials and best practices • Participating in other ELLS science education and outreach-related activities at EMBL.
You will have a passion for science communications and science education and have completed a Masters degree in the Life Sciences.You have several years’ experience in developing and running science education and engagement programmes in a European context. The position requires outstanding organisational skills, good attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work both independently and in team is essential. Previous experience in project management, organisation of events and digital media is desirable. Excellent command of written and spoken English is required.

What else you need to know
