We are looking for a Research Technician to join the group of Dr. Gautam Dey in the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit at EMBL Heidelberg, Germany. Our group uses a combination of genomics and comparative cell biology in multiple model systems to investigate the evolution and remodelling of the nucleus. We are searching for a highly motivated applicant who would have a central role in setting up the research group and make original scientific contributions to the research projects of the lab.  

Your role

The successful applicant will take part in specific research projects involving molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology techniques, alone and in collaboration with other lab members. The ideal candidate will also have responsibility for general laboratory management, including administration of lab resources, purchases, scheduling lab duties and training of new group members in various techniques.  

You have

  • An undergraduate, Masters or Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, cell biology or a related field from an accredited university or technical school.
  • Experience working in a lab and research environment.
  • Expertise in molecular biology methods, such as cloning and protein purification.
  • An interest in basic science and laboratory work, organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

You might also have

  • Prior experience as a lab technician or lab manager.
  • Familiarity with either fission yeast or budding yeast genetics.
  • Parasitology (including Biosafety Level 2) experience.
  • Prior experience with light and/or electron microscopy.
