We are looking for a motivated receptionist for EMBL's headquarter laboratory in Heidelberg. The EMBL Reception is open Monday to Friday from 07.00 - 18.00 and is manned on a shift system. The successful candidate will work as coverage when needed in early shifts or afternoons to deputise for colleagues in case of absences.

Your role

Apart from assisting visitors to the Laboratory, processing the daily post, courier packages and providing information to guests and employees, you will also take care of the busy telephone system. The work might also involve administration of petty cash. In addition to the above, the reception staff is responsible for monitoring the fire call control centre, answering emergency calls as well as alerting first aid helpers, fire wardens and emergency doctors.

As our ideal candidate, you will be an open-minded person that demonstrates to be very friendly and supportive, highly flexible, very well organised, able to work under pressure with a high level of reliability and self-initiative. Good telephone manners as well as professional behaviour vis-à-vis guests and employees is vital. Very good communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work in a team are required. Basic computer skills as well as a good command of both German and English are essential. An administrative background and work experience from a similar role is required.
