The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany) and the outstations are in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).
EMBL is looking for a Research Technician/Engineer/Scientific Officer to join the group of Dr. Edward Lemke in the Structural and Computational Biology & Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit. The successful candidate will use a variety of experimental approaches including biochemistry, molecular and cell biology to meet the research goals of the laboratory. The post holder should be curious to learn new techniques and will enjoy providing training and assistance to other group members. Even more so, the post holder should be interested in pursuing research projects in an independent and collaborative manner. Candidates who have the ambition and additional skills to develop to a project/lab manager to substantiate the performance of the group to achieve the goals of the recently awarded ERC project are particularly encouraged to apply.
Qualifications and Experience
In addition to a university or technical school degree in a relevant field (the position is well suited for candidates e.g. with an MSc degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnological, Chemistry, Biology, (Bio)Physics, (Bio)engineering etc.; suitable candidates with higher degrees can be considered as well), the ideal candidate will have a background in molecular biology and cell biology. The position is also well suited for early career candidates, who are ambitious and interested in pursuing a strong career in scientific research and in supporting scientific research. Experience in molecular cloning, protein expression/purification as well as insect cells and/or mammalian cell culture will be extremely valuable, but training will be provided if needed. Most importantly, the candidate will be well organized and able to work independently. The key selection criterion will be motivation of the candidate and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary and international team and support ongoing research efforts with a high level of intellectual creativity, persistence and dedication. (S)he must have excellent communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English is required.
