The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Barcelona (Spain), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton near Cambridge (UK) and Rome (Italy).
EMBL Heidelberg is seeking a highly motivated student for a bioinformatics internship at the Genome Biology Computational Support Group (GBCS). GBCS (https://gbcs.embl.de ) maintains an EMBL wide Galaxy (https://galaxyproject.org) instance that is used by multiple research groups. Galaxy is a scientific workflow, data integration, and data and analysis persistence and publishing platform that aims to make computational biology accessible to research scientists that do not have computer programming experience.
We are looking for a bioinformatics bachelor/master student with strong programming skills for an internship from 3 to 6 months to optimize our Galaxy instance. Possible projects are:
- writing tool wrappers
- optimize cluster resource requirements
- building & improving common analysis workflows, including RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq and Single Cell Genomics
