The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton near Cambridge (UK), Rome (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain).
EMBL is looking for a research technician for sample preparation and processing for human microbiomics projects pursued by the group of Peer Bork in collaboration with the Genomics Core Facility at its main laboratory in Heidelberg.
The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for isolation of nucleic acids from various specimens related to human microbiome in various body parts. The work will comprise a complete workflow from sample preparation and processing to massively parallel sequencing. It will include assessment of suitability of protocols to isolate complete nucleic acids from microbial component within the sample and their implementation to liquid handling robotics platform.
Qualifications and Experience
The applicant should be a research technician with a robust experience ideally from the microbiology laboratory, with practical knowledge of liquid handling robotics and its operation. Awareness of massively parallel sequencing technology is desirable. Expertise with Windows OS and Office Applications (especially Excel) is necessary and basic skills with the LINUX/UNIX operating system will be considered an advantage.
Strong organizational and communication skills along with the ability to interact with other scientists in English and to work in an international team are essential.
