We are looking for a research technician to join the group of Jan Kosinski at EMBL Hamburg located at the recently established Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) on the DESY campus in Hamburg.

Your role

You will manage our experimental laboratory, support research projects, contribute to planning our experimental research and implement new techniques. You will design, perform and troubleshoot experiments in an independent manner, and preferably lead own research project. The responsibilities will also include support and training of new personnel and students, equipment maintenance and purchase orders. The research in our group involves bioinformatics and experimental studies on interactions of influenza virus proteins with the host, in vivo (in mammalian cell cultures) and in vitro. The in vivo studies involve discovery of new host factors and cellular pathways important for infection, and characterization of protein-protein interactions using mass spectrometry, crosslinking, and other techniques. The in vitro studies include biophysical and structural characterization of purified proteins to confirm host-pathogen interactions. The post involves work at Biosafety Level 2.

You have

Applicants should have a Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. degree in cell biology, biochemistry or a related field and experience as a lab technician or equivalent related research experience. Excellent skills in molecular biology methods, such as cloning, and prior experience in mammalian cell culture techniques are required.

You might also have

Experience in virology (virus propagation, infection assays, reverse viral genome genetics), affinity purification, and high-throughput proteomics would be advantageous.

Why join us

EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation with a very collegial and family friendly working environment. Remuneration comprises a competitive tax free salary and benefits from the German Social Security Scheme.
