We are looking for a Laboratory Officer in Charge/Research technician to join the group of Christian Löw at EMBL Hamburg located at the recently established Centre for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) on DESY campus in Hamburg. The group is studying integral membrane proteins involved in nutrient uptake by structural and biochemical approaches. The lab is equipped for protein production in several expression systems, large-scale purification and biochemical and biophysical analyses.

Your role

You will manage our experimental laboratory, support research projects, contribute to planning our experimental research and implement new techniques. You will design, perform and troubleshoot experiments in an independent manner, and preferably lead your own research project. The responsibilities will also include support and training of new personnel and students, equipment maintenance and purchase orders.

You have

Applicants should have:
• a Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field (biology, chemistry or related disciplines) or comparable qualifications;
• working experience in molecular biology, protein expression and purification, and biochemistry is required;
• experience in mammalian cell culture techniques is necessary;
• excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with other international and multidisciplinary research teams is essential;
• good knowledge of desktop software applications;
• fluency in English is mandatory.

You might also have

Previous experience with integral membrane proteins and their expression in eukaryotic systems will be considered advantageous.
