Sanger and EMBL-EBI have shared the Wellcome Genome Campus in Hinxton since 1996. This proximity fosters close collaborations and contributes to an international and vibrant campus environment. Formalising these long-standing links heralds an exciting future of ongoing scientific collaboration and cooperation in areas such as services, research, training, technology, public engagement and campus activities.

The Wellcome Sanger Institute is a charitably funded genomic research centre focused on understanding the role of genetics in health and disease seeking to uncover the basis of genetic and infectious disease. The aim is to provide results that can be translated into diagnostics, treatments or therapies that reduce global health burdens.
