Workshop Session 1: 15:45 – 16:45

How to make sense of big scale WGS data

by Tonya McSherry

As the ability to sequence a human genome for just $1,000 has enabled an unprecedented growth in large-scale whole-genome sequencing (WGS) projects, sequencing is no longer the bottleneck.  A number of political and healthcare organizations are now driving national scale genome analysis studies and are finding that there are a number of variables to consider when aiming to transform healthcare through use of genomic tools.  Understanding how to implement the sequencing technology to produce the highest quality data and importantly knowing how to make sense of big scale WGS data is critical to the success of these projects.  During this workshop, we’ll review Illumina’s solutions for whole-genome sequencing analysis from DNA to reporting.  Additionally, we will share insight and experiences from early national scale projects.
