EMBL Courses and Conferences during the Coronavirus pandemic
With the onsite programme paused, many of our events are now being offered in virtual formats.
Registration is open as usual for many events, with back-up plans in place to move further courses and conferences online as necessary. Registration fees for any events affected by the COVID-19 disruption are fully refundable.
More information for participants of events at EMBL Heidelberg can be found here.
Registration is now closed. If you are interested to attend the course, please contact Maryann Heck.
This five-day course on live-cell super-resolution imaging with STED and RESOLFT microscopy will cover the entire imaging workflow from sample preparation and advanced acquisition skills up to data analysis for STED and RESOLFT microscopy, focussing on living samples.
Experts from EMBL and Abberior Instruments as well as invited guest speakers and trainers will cover all necessary aspects in depth.
Aimed at early stage researchers (e.g. pre- or postdoctoral level) in life science with access to STED and RESOLFT super-resolution microscopy equipment, participants should have an immediate need to apply these techniques for their biological research. Imaging facility staff involved in training and supporting scientists using STED and RESOLFT super-resolution microscopy would certainly also benefit from this course.
The course will have a strong emphasis on practical know-how needed to leverage the latest developments in STED and RESOLFT microscopy. It is therefore equally suited for scientists who already rely on super-resolution microscopy for their research and researchers applying advanced imaging techniques who want to extend their practical knowledge.
The entire range of skills needed to master STED and RESOLFT super-resolution microscopy in a biological research environment will be covered. Lectures and practical workshops will deal with the following topics:
- Sample preparation for STED super-resolution microscopy (immunostaining as well as live-cell labelling)
- Sample preparation for RESOLFT super-resolution microscopy
- Multi-Colour 3D STED microscopy in fixed and living samples
- RESOLFT microscopy in fixed and living specimen (mammalian cells and fruit flies)
- Overview of advanced and specialised techniques (including RESCue-STED, STED-FLIM, STED-FCS)
- Data analysis for STED and RESOLFT images
At the end of the course, participants will be able to plan an experiment relying on STED and/or RESOLFT super-resolution microscopy, prepare their samples accordingly, record images using optimal conditions and settings and analyse them with appropriate methods and tools.
