APEER – Open, scalable and workflow-based
image and data processing platform

Speaker: Dr. rer. nat. Sebastian Rhode, Carl Zeiss Microscopy GmbH, Munich

Since the development of the first digital cameras, researchers and manufactures are facing the challenge to extract quantitative, actionable information from the acquired images to further their research and improve their processes. This task is crucial but turns out to be one of the most challenging stages in the whole microscopy workflow. With APEER the user now has the possibility to create such image and data analysis workflow in a flexible and transparent manner. One can use the programming language of choice and the docker™  and Kubernetes™ based infrastructure allows the researcher to create reproducible and sharable workflows with the hustle to install all the required software packages. Using special connector APEER is seamlessly integrated into the ZEN software platform and allows for bidirectional workflows connecting the hardware with external processing tasks to allow workflows such as Adaptive Feedback Microscopy. Despite being a ZEISS initiative APEER is not limited to processing CZI data, but is an generic processing platform, open for the whole community.
