Rise Up Movement, Uganda
The Rise Up Movement
"We rise up for our lives. We speak for our lives. Time is up for all of us. It is time to Act."
This talk will explore how loss of biodiversity and climate change is affecting Uganda, and the role that young people can play in addressing these issues. In particular, it will showcase the Rise Up Movement Africa, explaining how it came about, and demonstrating how others can learn from this inspiring initiative. Above all, it will argue that the issues of mass extinction and climate change could and should be addressed by a larger number, and greater diversity of voices.
Vanessa Nakate is a climate activist from Uganda. She was the First Fridays For Future climate activist in Uganda and founder of the Rise up Climate Movement in order to amplify the voices of activists from Africa. Her work includes raising awareness around the danger of climate change, the causes and the impacts. She spear-led the campaign, Save Congo rainforest, which is facing massive deforestation. This campaign later spread to other countries from Africa to Europe. She is also working on a project that involves installation of solar and institutional stoves in schools.
